Safe Harbour features a true four seasons greenhouse. The controlled climate creates an ideal temperature and humidity environment, even on the coldest winter days, to produce an abundance of fresh, organic vegetables, herbs, flowers and fruits, including tropical fruits such as dwarf tree lemons, limes and oranges.
The spacious geodesic dome is well constructed using quality Western Red Cedar throughout, including the planting beds and planting stands. The dome includes a 1000 gallon water pond with solar powered circulating fountain, solar powered and thermostatically controlled fresh air intake and exhaust fans to regulate both heat and humidity. The dome has a winterized water supply system and ample 120V outlets for ambient lighting and grow lights.
The attached utility shed houses a Blaze King wood heater to provide the primary heating source for the dome. The dry heat from the wood heater helps to regulate humidity and the shed and the dome have backup, vented propane heaters to maintain temperatures should the wood stove go out or not be used on less cool spring or fall days. The shed includes generous sized work counters, a rinsing sink, ample 120V outlets, screened door and windows for air circulation on warm days and a low wattage, speed controlled circulating fan system for hot or cool air exchange with the dome.
